Florescence

April 2021

Drawing on flower lore and Floriography, I pieced together three narratives of self-reflection. Orange Lily takes place in a moment of gazing in the mirror, picking over the image until sickened from trying to understand the reflection. Daffodil concerns a moment about processing grief and realizing how little perspectives can feel in the moment. Anemone is about looking back into the past and the frustration of not revealing how it all turns out. Inspiration comes from John Koenig’s Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, a collection of words fabricated by the author that encompasses unique moments of human experience. Adding Koenig’s words to my collection of thoughts, feelings, and flower symbology resulted in a further understanding of the name of a feeling and its experience.
